The red velvet curtain was raised Thursday evening at the Parkway Theatre amid champagne, popcorn and, of course, a three-minute short portraying the $18.2 million conversion of the historic movie house into a modern, digital palace. The theater at North Avenue and Charles Street stood vacant and derelict for 40 years, even though it held a designation on the National Register of Historic Places.
