BB&T CEO Kelly King told analysts Thursday that the bank expects to close 100 branches this year. King cited the popularity of the bank’s U by BB&T digital platform, used by about 60 percent of its customers, as the reason for the closures, reports the Winston-Salem Journal . BB&T currently has 2,193 branches, down 56 from June 30. BB&T is the fourth largest bank in the Baltimore area, with more $5.6 billion in local deposits.
