Target to buy same-day grocery delivery startup for $550 million

Target Corp. is stepping up its efforts to offer same-day delivery on groceries and other essentials, agreeing to acquire Instacart rival Shipt Inc. in a deal worth $550 million. Minneapolis-based Target (NYSE: TGT) will be able to offer same-day delivery to half of its stores by early 2018 through the deal; that could expand to most of its stores by this time next year.
