Year in Review 2017: Amazon hits big at home and across the country

This was the year when Amazon.com gelled its presence in Maryland. The internet retailing giant first appeared on the state’s economic development scene in 2014 with the opening of a fulfillment center at a former General Motors plant site on Broening Highway. Today, the Seattle-based juggernaut employs 4,000 in the state — with more hires promised in 2018. So far, Amazon has built 2.73 million square feet of warehouse space in Maryland, including a 1.15-million square foot hub in Cecil County…
