Md. Children's Health Insurance Program is running out of funds

Federal funding for a health insurance program that provides low-cost coverage to children of the working poor lapsed Sept. 30, leaving over 140,000 Maryland children in limbo. The Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) was created in 1997, with bipartisan support, in an effort to provide health coverage for children of families with low incomes, but not low enough to qualify for Medicaid.
