Maryland to invest $50M in computer-controlled traffic lights to ease congestion

Gov. Larry Hogan announced a $50 million investment Wednesday in new computer-controlled traffic lights along 14 major stretches of highway throughout Maryland, the latest move to help improve congestion on some of the state’s busiest routes. Hogan said the new traffic lights, called “Smart Signal,” will be able to automatically change their timing based on congestion, construction and accidents to try and ease any backups that may form.
