BEATRICE, NEBRASKA — As my family and I made the one-and-a-half hour drive from Omaha to Beatrice (pronounced Bee-aa-triss) we made what could have very well been a cross-country trip. We passed town signs for Syracuse, Louisville and Virginia. But they were all in Nebraska — all with populations of less than 10,000, unlike their other namesakes in other parts of the country.
