Maryland sheds more than 20,000 jobs in December

Maryland lost 20,200 jobs in December, sending the unemployment rate up to 4 percent. The state posted month-to-month losses across several sectors, including construction, manufacturing, government and education and health services, according to data released Tuesday the U.S. Department of Labor. Among the biggest declines were in professional and business services (down 6,000) and trade, transportation and utilities (down 2,900).
