Population density may have been the key to Trump losing Maryland — but winning the presidential election

We’re less than a week past the election, yet the counting continues. Eighteen states were still working through their tabulations as of Thursday, and several news organizations still consider the race between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton to be too close to call in Michigan and New Hampshire. But we know the winner, of course. Trump carried (or is leading in) 30 of the 50 states, pushing him past the Electoral College’s threshold of 270 electoral votes.
