Former Hopkins Federal chairman sues Bay Bank over embezzlement claims

Former Hopkins Federal Savings Bank chairman Alvin M. Lapidus and his wife claim a former employee embezzled at least $1.45 million from their personal deposit accounts prior to the bank’s merger with Bay Bank. In a lawsuit filed Sept. 26 in U.S. District Court in Baltimore, Lapidus and his wife, Lois, accuse an unnamed vice president of writing Hopkins Federal Bank checks to third parties, stealing cash from the bank and transferring funds to the accounts of third parties.
