Maryland's all-payer model gets feds' OK to expand, aims for $1B in health care savings

Maryland has received federal approval to expand its pilot payment structure aimed at dampening growth in health care costs, called the “all-payer model.” Previously, the model has only applied to hospitals in the state, but doctor’s offices and nursing homes will now be able to participate as well. The state began piloting the all-payer model for state hospitals in January 2014, in attempts to incentivize keeping people healthy and reducing their need for high-cost hospital care.
