Locke Insulators plans to close manufacturing plant in Port Covington

Locke Insulators Inc. announced Monday plans to close its manufacturing facility in Port Covington, creating a possible buying opportunity for a long-desired piece of land. The closure of the Locke manufacturing facility will take place “over the next few months,” affecting 84 production-related employees and 24 salaried workers who will be laid off. Locke cited “a dramatic reduction in demand” over the past 10 years in its giant high-voltage insulators used by electric utilities at substations…
