Hogan backs Franchot's push for stronger tax fraud penalties

Gov. Larry Hogan will introduce legislation first proposed by Comptroller Peter Franchot last year aimed at combating tax fraud and identity theft. Franchot has said he needs more tools and statutory powers to effectively protect taxpayers. The comptroller has become increasingly vocal over the last year about the growing tax fraud problem both nationally and in Maryland. The bill proposed by Franchot last year died in the Senate even though it passed through the House of Delegates by a 135-1 vote.…
