McCormick profit rises 12% in 1Q despite sales slowdown

McCormick & Co. Inc.’s profit rose 12 percent in the first quarter while sales slowed primarily as a result of the impact of foreign exchange rates. The Hunt Valley spice maker reported a first-quarter profit of $148 million, or $1.11 per share, compared to $422.6 million, or $3.18 per share, in the year-ago period which included a one-time $297.9 million benefit from federal tax reform.
