Hogan declares state of emergency as Hurricane Florence strengthens

Gov. Larry Hogan declared a state of emergency for Maryland on Monday ahead of Hurricane Florence’s expected landfall later this week. Florence’s path and the potential impact are uncertain, but Hogan said he wanted to take a “proactive measure” to ensure the state would would be prepared for “historic, catastrophic flooding.” The Category 4 hurricane is sustaining winds of more than 130 miles per hour.
