Maryland adds 12,900 jobs in January but unemployment ticks up again

Maryland gained 12,900 jobs in January though unemployment increased for the third consecutive month. The state posted month-to-month increases in several industries as the private sector overall added 14,600 jobs, according to data released Monday by the U.S. Department of Labor. Government jobs declined by 1,700. For Maryland, the job gains represent a turnaround from December when the state lost 20,000 positions.
