Port of Baltimore brings in record cargo in 2016

The Port of Baltimore brought in more than 10 million tons of general cargo for the first time in 2016, a result of big ships coming in through the expanded Panama Canal. The port reported a 5 percent increase in general cargo from 2015 and a 3 percent increase in containers with 538,567. December was a particularly productive month for the port with a 23 percent increase in containers compared to the prior year.
