Maryland hemp farmers find 'unified voice' with new business coalition

Some Maryland farmers are looking to form a new trade association and present a unified front as lawmakers build rules around a new state industry — hemp. The Maryland General Assembly passed a bill last year allowing for the establishment of a research pilot program for industrial hemp. The measure was enabled by the passage of the 2018 Farm Bill at the federal level that loosened regulations around farming hemp, which is derived from the cannabis plant.
