Crab population growth is good news for restaurateurs and diners this year

Now is the best time in a while to be a fan of crabs. The population of blue crabs in the Chesapeake Bay is at its highest point since 2012, according to the recently released winter dredge survey from the Maryland Department of Natural Resources. An estimated 553 million blue crabs are living in the bay right now, up 34.5 percent from last year. The crab population had hit an all-time low in 2007, with an estimated 251 million crabs in the Department of Natural Resource’s survey that year. Below,…
