Pittsburgh health system investing $90M in newly acquired Maryland hospital

The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center has committed to investing $90 million over five years in the former Western Maryland Health System, which on its acquisition earlier this month became UPMC Western Maryland. The hospital system, based in Cumberland near the Pennsylvania border, now has a tighter integration with the Pittsburgh-based UPMC that includes not only UPMC Hillman Cancer Center but also nearby hospitals like UPMC Altoona and UPMC Bedford.
