A large grant awarded Wednesday will help city housing officials and a local expert find a way to convert vacant houses into temporary housing for homeless school kids. Fannie Mae awarded Doug Austin, CEO of the local UPD Consulting firm, and the city’s housing department a $225,000 grant to study how to set up a system to convert the blighted dwellings into places of refuge.
