UMB breaks ground on community center in West Baltimore

A new $8 million University of Maryland, Baltimore community engagement center will soon greet residents of West Baltimore. The 20,000-square-foot center broke ground this week inside a historic building at 16 S. Poppleton St., that was once part of the St. Peter’s Church complex and was most recently a drug and alcohol residential treatment center. It will replace an existing 3,000-square-foot UMB community center that opened in 2015 at 1 N. Poppleton St. in the UM BioPark, said UMB officials. Programs…
