The Ellicott City business community is rallying around the owners of a local cafe after one of them suffered a medical emergency abroad. Derek and Hatsumi Smith, who own Japanese tea shop and sushi restaurant Matcha Time Cafe, have been stuck in Japan since late June after Derek suffered a serious heart attack while traveling to a funeral for Hatsumi’s father, according to a fundraising page set up to help the couple.
