Maryland loses 1,200 jobs, unemployment holds steady as U.S. economy slows

Maryland lost 1,200 jobs in May and the unemployment rate held steady amid an overall slowdown in the U.S. economy. A number of private-sector industries saw declines while government jobs increased by 2,000, according to data released Friday by the U.S. Department of Labor. Trade, transportation and utilities lost 1,600 jobs, the most of any industry. Construction jobs declined by 1,400 while leisure and hospitality lost 1,000 jobs.
