Hopkins president hopes $1.8B Bloomberg gift encourages support from other schools' alums

Not every university has an alumnus who would be willing to offer up $1.8 billion of their own money so middle- and low-income students could afford to attend their alma mater. Having a benefactor like Michael Bloomberg, famed philanthropist and former mayor of New York City, is an “extraordinary” advantage for Johns Hopkins, said university President Ronald J. Daniels.
