Maryland’s hospitals have begun canceling elective surgeries ahead of an expected surge of COVID-19 cases. The University of Maryland Medical System announced Monday that it will postpone all elective, non-emergent surgeries, beginning Wednesday, March 18, through April 1 in order to “provide additional capacity for UMMS hospitals to treat those patients in greatest need,” the system said in a release.
