Split costs drive W.R. Grace to first-quarter loss

Costs related to W. R. Grace & Co.’s corporate split dragged the Columbia-based catalyst maker to a first-quarter loss in earnings released Wednesday. Grace (NYSE: GRA) absorbed $40 million in after-tax costs related to the February spinoff of its construction chemicals and building materials lines into separate company, GCP Applied Technologies Inc.
