Md. unemployment filings hit another pandemic low with less than 22,000 new claims

Initial standard unemployment claims in Maryland hit another new low last week, dropping below 22,000 for the first time since the pandemic began. Figures released Thursday by the U.S. Department of Labor show 21,929 Marylanders filed standard unemployment claims for the week ending June 27, a decrease of 10,620 filings from the prior week’s revised figure of 32,549. At the same time, claims for pandemic assistance more than doubled to nearly 33,000, exceeding standard claims for the first time…
