Business leaders, philanthropists hope to buy The Baltimore Sun and run it as local nonprofit

A local philanthropist is taking another run at buying the Baltimore Sun, offering both the money to make the purchase and a commitment to local, independent news at a time when it is sorely needed, a spokesman for the effort said.
