Maryland general fund revenue for fiscal 2017 comes in higher than expected

Maryland closed fiscal 2017 with a general fund balance of $256.3 million, but state Comptroller Peter Franchot urged caution amid uncertain times in Washington. In all, the state collected nearly $16.7 billion in the fiscal year ended June 30, up 3.1 percent over the year-ago period. The total is $90.3 million, or 0.5 percent, above estimates.
