Ciena shares skyrocket 15 percent after strong earnings report

Ciena Corp. shares soared 15 percent in afternoon trading Thursday after it reported profit in the second quarter more than doubled. The Hanover-based computer networking company reported earnings of $38 million, or 25 cents per share, compared to $14 million, or 10 cents per share, in the same time period last year. Womble Carlyle to merge with U.K.-based law firm

Womble Carlyle Sandridge & Rice LLP said Thursday that it is merging with United Kingdom-based Bond Dickinson LLP in a move that will create a combined entity with 1,000 lawyers across 23 offices worldwide. The combination becomes effective in October, when all signage will be changed to Womble Bond Dickinson, the name of the combined entity. Baltimore’s walkability score held steady in 2017, again placing the city No. 11 in the U.S. on a new report.
