Maryland Senate President Thomas V. Mike Miller Jr. will step down after 33 years leading the chamber and be succeeded by Baltimore Sen. Bill Ferguson. Miller, 76, is the longest-serving state Senate president in U.S. history, but has been fighting cancer through the past year. He said Thursday he will continue to finish out his term as senator.
