The Maryland Department of Labor received 41,882 unemployment claims during the week ending March 21, according to data released Thursday by the U.S. Department of Labor. That means local claims increased about 11-fold from 3,864 the prior week. Thousands of people have flooded state agencies in the U.S. with requests.
