Spike Gjerde's Bird in Hand bookstore cafe near Hopkins to open Nov. 7

Spike Gjerde remembers Louie’s Bookstore Cafe on North Charles Street as the “it place” for Baltimoreans before and after work or events. The mixture of literature and caffeine made for a winning formula. Louie’s closed 17 years ago, but Gjerde said he thinks a cafe and bookstore combination is still something that could work in the right location.
