Tax preparers are charging low-income workers high prices, study says

Baltimore’s low-income workers are likely losing large chunks of their tax returns to filing fees at tax-preparation chains, finds a new study being released Thursday by a progressive think tank that was co-authored by a Johns Hopkins University professor. The study, out just in time for the coming of Tax Day on Monday, gauged prices at three large tax preparation chains operating in Baltimore and Washington, D.C.
