Johns Hopkins University spent a record $2.6 billion on research and development projects in fiscal year 2017, leading all U.S. universities for the 39th consecutive year. The Baltimore-based university’s R&D spending increased 5.4 percent from fiscal 2016, according to annual reporting from the National Science Foundation.
