Baltimore City was No. 2 across the U.S. for population loss last year

Baltimore City’s population declined by 5,310 between 2016 and 2017, the second-highest numeric decrease among U.S. counties. The 0.9 percent decrease brought the city’s population down to 611,648 as of July 1, 2017, according to new estimates released Thursday by the U.S. Census Bureau. Cook County, Illinois, where Chicago sits, saw the largest decline at 20,093, a 0.4 percent decrease. Cuyahoga County, Ohio, was third, with a drop of 4,940.
