Baltimore school board names new CEO to replace Thornton

Gregory Thornton’s rocky tenure as head of Baltimore City Public Schools will come to an end on Friday with the school board’s decision to replace him with a former city school official. Sonja B. Santelises, 48, will take over the post on July 1. Santelises is currently the vice president for K-12 policy and practice at the Education Trust, a Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit focused on closing the achievement gap.
