The number of Baltimore homes being sold in tax sales is down sharply. Here's why.

The number of owned-occupied homes in Baltimore being auctioned in tax sales has dropped 40 percent from last year, a plunge advocates are billing as a major victory brought about by legal changes and increased outreach to at-risk homeowners. A total of 5,617 homes are being auctioned by the city in tax sales this year, the Abell Foundation said Tuesday. That’s down sharply from 9,411 in 2015.
